June consultation results and response
There was consultation in June 2022 on the vision developed following the earlier consultation and events held in January 2022. A summary leaflet on the vision was distributed to all households in Wiveliscombe and to neighbouring parish councils. The consultation was also promoted through social media, local newspapers and on 10 Radio.
For the June consultation, 175 people responded online and 24 returned comments using the summary leaflet.
People were asked if they supported or opposed the proposals in the vision. Online results were:
- Strongly support 83 (47%)
- Support 44 (25%)
- Unsure 6 (3%)
- Oppose 17 (10%)
- Strong oppose 25 (14%)
Together with the paper responses the results were:
- Support 73%
- Oppose 23%
69 additional comments were received. These combined support, reservations and opposition. The comments covered:
- Too much car parking
- The need to enforce parking restrictions
- The need for disabled parking
- Dropped kerbs
- Pedestrianised areas and pavement build-outs
- One-way traffic (in particular the direction of flow)
- Access from West St to Jews Lane and driveways
- Bus stop location
- The cubes in the pedestrianised area
- Restoration and decoration of buildings including the Town Hall
- Delivery
The project group carefully considered the June consultation feedback and published a detailed response to comments and suggestions made. These can be viewed in the following documents:
Reflecting the consultation response, a slightly revised version of the town centre vision has been published. This summarises the changes and vision now proposed for Wiveliscombe town centre.
